this number 23 red and white Porsche Salzburg liveried 917 driven in the pouring rain by Hans Hermann and Richard Attwood came in first overall at Le Mans, 1970.

although a handful to pilot, the Kurzheck (short tail) design was found to give more aerodynamic stability maintaining down force with less drag at higher top speeds; a complete departure from the nearly uncontrollable Langheck (long tail). just watching this beast fire up leaves one in awe...imagine watching it being driven-
