Ever wonder why your cooling fans only run on high?
On the early Porsche 944 models, there are two electric cooling fans situated just behind the radiator. The driver’s side fan is designed to run either on low or high speed, depending on the operating temperature and whether the ignition is turned on or off. If the fan does not run on low, the low speed resistor is a good place to check for proper operation. Substantial confusion exists with regard to the proper location of the radiator cooling fan resistors. On the 1983 – early 1985 models, there is a single 1.8 ohm ceramic resistor situated behind the speedometer/tachometer cluster, as shown below. Remove the two wires prior to performing a resistance check with an ohm meter.
